Kodaikanal is a famous hill station located in TamilNadu, India. Kodaikanal is popularly known as the “Princess of Hill stations” and it is one of the popular tourist destinations in India.
The Kodaikanal hill town is located at an altitude of 2,133 meters (6,998 ft) above the sea level. The town is renowned for its famous spots, lakes, fruits, Golf Club, Eucalyptus and medicine value trees, educational institutions and more.
I’m basically from tamilnadu and i have visited the place for more than 10 times, since from my childhood and everytime i love climate and the hills.
During childhood, we would enjoy watching the placing and climate, but now we are matured and recently i visited the place for 2 days and here i would like share a photo story explaining the beauty, locations, attractions and more about the Kodiakanal.
In this this trip apart from seeing the main center of the town attractions and spots, i have decided to visit the nearby villages and spots in Kodaikanal. Hence you will miss some of the main places and attractions in this post. No worries, i will be doing more stories on Kodaikanal.
This is the main lake is located at the center of the city and below are few snaps from the lake.
This is an artificial, roughly star-shaped 60 acres lake built in 1863.
Rowboats and pedalos facilities are available in the lake to attract the tourist.
Horse Riding and Cycling – is available beside the lake and it can be hired for a short period of time.
Walk Around the Lake – The 5 kilometres path of this lovely lake is a favourite walk for the locals and tourists.
Sunrise in Kodaikanal:
The early morning sunrise in a hill station will be one of the attractive scenes.
After visiting the lake and the spots near the lake, I decided to travel to Poombarai Village which is nearly 18 km from the main city Kodaikanal.
During the journey to Poombarai Village, the path to the village was amazing and it all filled by trees.
You will also have a spot to see the Palani Hills. During my visit the hills were covered by the clouds and unable to see the clear view of the Palani Hills.
Poombarai is a small village and the main attraction of the village is the Kuzhanthai Velappar Temple and the village is famous for its Garlic (Poondu in Tamil).
After visiting the Poombarai Village and the famous temple, i started to Mannavanur, again a small place located kms from the main city.
Mannavanur is a farming village famous for the shooting spot, lake, goat and rabbit farm. It is located at 35 kilometres west from Kodaikanal. Bison, sambar, barking deer, Nilgiri langur, Nilgiri tahr and jungle cats are sighted here. The place is also known for its 165 species of butterflies, 15 types of dabchicks, wood pigeon and the Nilgiri pipit.
It is an amazing view of the hills and lake combined.
I have captured this photo before 2
The Shooting spot looks amazing along with the goats. Many movies songs and few other scenes were shot on this location.
The Central Sheep and Wool Research Institution along with farm and Rabbit Farm are located in this village.
I will be covering more stories about Kodaikanal in coming days. I have went for a short 2 day trip to kodaikanal to spend my weekend. Hence, i got a chance to explore only few places and spots. Still lot more to explore in and around the Kodaikanal Hills – I will cover new locations, attractions and more after my next visit. Stay tuned.
